Sinister

This is Joost my very good friend who looks pretty sinister in this shot. I took this shot moment before his directing debut 'Wraak' was shown at the Dutch film festival.

Oranje!

I went completely crazy after 'Oranje's' insane comeback against 5-time world champions Brazil! There were spontaneous parties throughout the whole country afterwards.  What a crazy match! 

As always we all support out team. We love oranje!

I'm not the biggest fan of Nike, but I'll have to admit as par of their "Bleed Orange" campaign they aired a beautiful ad before the game:

Summertime

I can't count the summer-days and evenings I've spent at my local bmx-track. While developing other interests as well over the last few years track-time got less. 

But I definitely enjoy it every-time I make it there though. Especially now the weather is getting better. BMX, friends, some beers and bbq. Bring on the summer!

Guys going head-to-head with such different styles over the first dubs. I want to shoot more bmx in the future, but it's kinda hard to put down my bike when I'm out there.

Faceplants are asy

MadNes festival

Finally developed and scanned the images from MadNes 2010. It's a surf, skate and music festival on a island off the Dutch coast, and it was great! Here's a short impression:

There was skating

Somebody wrecked the miniramp

There were surflessons

Sadly the waves were this high

There was some kind of dans/yoga lesson

There were Indo boards (and youngsters that rip!)

There were people washing their hair before visiting the hairdresser in attendance

There was music on several stages including a floating stage!

There was one band that got it. More punk, less ska!!!

By far the best band I saw. The Quaint. 

Surfrider foundation handed out prizes after the beach clean-up contest.

There was a ferris wheel!

And last but certainly not least, there were drinks

Freakin great festival. I'm blocking my agenda for next year.

Little Drummer Boy

Last Friday it was Queensday here in Holland. 

We celebrate the birthday of our queen by dressing in orange and drinking beer in the streets. Its my favourite holiday by far! One of the traditions is that people sell their used stuff on 'freemarkets' in the street. On these markets  a lot of kids showcase their instrumental skills in hope of earning some change from the people passing by. 

The kid in the picture really ruled! He only had a toy drum which he was beating with his hand. 

Both his rhythm and the look in his eyes were not from this world. But nonetheless he sure was making more money then all the other older kids who were playing Bach and Beethoven on their violins and keyboards! 

I even managed to not buy one single old crappy camera on the freemarket this year. And I'm still not sure if I think that's a good thing. 

The 5th of may is the next freemarket (we then celebrate our freedom after WWII), let's see if I can stay 'clean'. 

I think I smell a rat

When I lived near the sea a lot of gulls swarmed my house. They were some dirty, greasy and just plain nasty birds so we tend to call them the rats of the sea.  But then a while ago I went to the island Texel in front off our coast, and was surprised about how the gulls there were nice bright white and quite graceful (Off-course my gritty picks don't show any of the whiteness or grace).

I scan my black and white film in colour, and my scanner amazes me by assigning random colour-casts to the film. I like how the different shades work in this collage.

Utrecht got love

Someone customized a lot of trafficlights in the city. I like it. It shows the city got love.

New Toys

I have added some new toys to my collection lately. First of all I came across this little chest of treasures:

After my mother gave me my fathers old Rolleiflex camera, I started experimenting with it right away. It wasn't long before I realised that it was close to impossible to focus on close range. I kinda got frustrated with the camera, and didn't understand how some of the photographs I had seen that were taken with similar cameras had been made. That was until I learned about the Rolleinar lenses.

These are sets of lenses that let you focus your Rolleiflex on close range. So I started looking out for these lenses for and discovered they are somewhat rare and thus expensive. After a while though, I found this nice set for dirt cheap!

It contains two Rolleinar sets (Nr. 1 and 2) for close-ups and an assortment of other lenses (UV, mild yellow, bright yellow, blue and green) all bound up in a slick leather Rollei package. Needless to say, I am really stoked on getting my hands on this set!

The other addition to my collection is a Olympus Mju II (named Stylus Epic in the USA).

Slide it open and the 1:2.8 lens is revealed

I have wanted a camera that would fit into my pocket for a while. I just got sick of missing nice photo opportunities because I didn't have a camera with me everywhere/everytime. A while ago I decided on a Olympus Mju II. The camera is nice and small, and because of the sturdy shell that slides before the lens its easy to carry around without damaging the camera. Besides that, the camera has a really nice 35mm lens with a big aperture of 1:2.8, so it will let you shoot in pretty low light conditions without having to use the flash. And its fast to use. Slide it open and you can shoot right away, very handy for when you have to act quickly. These machines sell pretty cheap second-hand, and because a lot of them were sold they shouldn't be to hard to find.

I bought the camera as a Christmas present for myself. It arrived on the last day of 2009 and these are some shots I took that night (new years eve):
