Deutsche grundlichkeit

Jonas, board nr.1

Jonas came all the way from Germany to be greeted by massive winds and lots of foam. He made a huge impression on the other shapers by showing his first! hollow wooden board. It looked insanely clean and very neatly crafted. Jonas is a cabinet maker, and if you would like to build a wooden board yourself, start out with cabinets. It works!
In my opinion by far the nicest board out there. Could be that I like old skool longboard shapes, but could also be that I like insane craftsmanship.

He got the outline of the board by taking a beamer and projecting a picture of a Wegener board on a piece of paper fixed to his his wall, and then tracing the outline onto the paper. Very creative solution.

Sjoerd

Sjoerd, board nr's??

There was a storm on the day of the Swayholland meeting, so the waves were completely blown-out. Nevertheless I had to rush to get these shots of Sjoerd, cause he was going out no matter what. Like the Dutch say "gaan wanneer ze staan!" (translates into something like: go when the waves show), Sjoerd spent hours in what can only be described like a frothing mess of foam, only to embark from the water and remark that the wind wasn't so bad and that he had caught some nice ones. Stay positive!

Sjoerd brought these very light and superstrong epoxy boards to the meeting. Definitely not his first boards.

Dutch shaper Dave

Dave, boards nr.?

2nd. Dave is one of the organizers of Swayholland and isn't affraid to experiment with shapes and materials. Good stuff!

I think it's interesting to mention how many boards a shaper has made before he created the example(s) pictured. However due to the horrendous rain on the day of Swayholland I didn't do my homework.
If you see your boards here, drop me a line and tell me how many you made and which number the board pictured is.

Shapers

Eef boards nr. 100 and 101?

This is the first in a series I did of the shapers attending the Swayholland meeting. I am planning to make this a continuous project and to keep portaying shapers in this fashion.
The first one is of monsterboards.org's Eef. Eef is a thriving creative force in the Dutch surf and shape community, and one of the organisers of the Swayholland meetings. You can check out a fantastic movie about Eef which will be played at the New York film festival!
